Who are the two witnesses?

Revelation 11:3-4 (NIV)
And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth. They are the two olive trees and the two lampstands, and they stand before the Lord of the earth.

God will appoint two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days. There are a few theories about who these two individuals could be, but the most popular is Elijah, who is one of God’s great prophets who did not die (ref. Malachi 4:4-5) and Enoch, who did not die as well (ref. Genesis 5:24). Still others believe Moses or John (author of the Book of Revelation) may be possible candidates.
