What is the meaning of 666 in the Bible?

Revelation 13:16-18 (NIV)
It (the false prophet) also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.

The false prophet will force all people in the world to receive a mark on their right hand or forehead to buy and sell goods and services. The number 666 is nothing more than “the number of a man” and represents an economic system better known today as digital currency. Accepting the mark is the same as turning your back on Christ and will prevent you from entering heaven (ref. Revelation 14:9-11).
